August 2026 Horse and Volunteer Spotlight: Jack, Pat & Debbie, Christa

Palomino Quarter Horse named Jack standing in paddock at Ivey Ranch in Oceanside, CAJack is our newest addition and has been at the ranch for almost 6 months! He is a registered Quarter Horse and a sturdy, solid boy with a lot of knowledge to share with our riders. At 18 years old, Jack has a “been there, done that” attitude and not much phases him. He is continuing to work toward participating in leadline and therapeutic lessons, and currently excels with our independent riders. We are looking forward to seeing him continue to work into more areas of our program.

Volunteers Pat and Debbie standing with horse Jack at Ivey Ranch in Oceanside, CAVolunteers since 2021, Pat and Debbie have donated over 2,000 hours between the pair of them. They have had a hand in each one of our programs, working with the horses during Grooming Gang and Barn Buddies, helping with Girl Scout groups and birthday parties, interning during summer camps, helping with the Adult Day and After-School programs, helping to make improvements around the ranch, and they co-sponsor Jack. Their favorite part about volunteering is being with the horses and fellow horse lovers, and they keep coming back to volunteer because they feel like they are part of a family and are accepted as they are. Pat and Debbie shared that they can have a lot on their mind but that they can be in the moment with the horses when they get to the ranch. They feel like Ivey Ranch is magical, and we have to say that Pat and Debbie are pretty magical, too!

Portrait of Grooming Gang volunteer Christa at Ivey Ranch in Oceanside, CAChrista started volunteering in March and has been a dedicated Grooming Gang volunteer since! While she loves all of the horses and shares that she is blessed to have the time to spend with them, Jack has a special place in her heart and she has stepped forward to be his co-sponsor. She continues to volunteer each week because working with the horses and fellow volunteers has made an impact on her, and she is so happy to have the time to spend with everyone at the ranch. Fun fact: Christa started volunteering after seeing our sign on the 76. We are so glad she did!

Each month, we celebrate one of our Ranch Stars, a volunteer who goes above and beyond to make Ivey Ranch shine. Their time, care, and dedication help our programs thrive and keep our community strong. We’re always looking for more Ranch Stars to join our team. If you have been thinking about volunteering, this is your sign to get involved. You could be featured in next month’s newsletter! Click below to learn more and sign up to volunteer.
