About Vaulting

Equestrian vaulting — often described as gymnastics on horseback — combines artistry, athleticism, and a deep partnership with the horse. At Ivey Ranch, vaulters work as a team across three formats: individual, pairs (pas-de-deux), and group routines. The program offers exceptional benefits for both typically developing participants and those who may have challenges with balance, attention, gross motor skills, or social interaction. Our vaulting team also performs at Ivey Ranch Open Houses and special events throughout the year.

What to Expect Each Session

Each practice runs approximately 1.5 hours and includes:

Grooming & Tacking

Participants begin by preparing the vaulting horse, building horsemanship skills and a connection with the animal before the workout begins.

Stretching & Warm-Up

Every session includes a structured warm-up to prepare the body for movement and reduce the risk of injury.

Barrel Exercises

Skills are first practiced and perfected on the vaulting barrel, a safe and effective training tool used by vaulters at every level.

Mounted Execution

Participants bring their barrel work to the horse, progressing from a walk to a trot as skills develop.

What Our Families Are Saying
