Giving caregivers a break — and their loved ones a place to thrive.
Caring for a family member with a disability or special needs is both meaningful and demanding. Respite care gives family caregivers temporary relief while their loved ones receive attentive, quality care. At Ivey Ranch Park Association in Oceanside, we offer in-home and out-of-home respite services for families and San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) clients.

In-Home Respite
In-home respite allows individuals to receive care in the comfort of their own home, maintaining familiar routines while giving primary caregivers the relief they need. Ivey Ranch provides in-home respite care to families who have contractual services through the San Diego Regional Center. This service supports individual well-being while helping to prevent caregiver burnout and reduce the need for out-of-home placement.
Out-of-Home Respite
A horse’s rhythmic, three-dimensional gait closely mirrors the human walking pattern — which means every step engages the rider’s core, improves posture, and challenges balance in ways traditional therapy equipment cannot replicate. Riders aren’t passive passengers; they’re active participants in a full-body experience guided by movement, rhythm, and connection.
Out-of-Home Respite (OHR) brings participants to Ivey Ranch, where they engage in structured programs within a supportive ranch setting. OHR supports children and adults with disabilities by fostering self-image, responsibility, communication, appropriate behavior, and peer relationships — with a focus on community inclusion, independent living skills, and recreational skill-building.
Ivey Ranch is an approved SDRC vendor, and several of our care programs are available to participants utilizing Out-of-Home Respite hours. Hours are arranged based on participant availability, group learning levels, peer dynamics, and individual needs.
