New at Ivey Ranch: The Instructor in Training Series

Interested in therapeutic riding instructor training, or looking to feel more confident around horses? Ivey Ranch’s new Instructor in Training series is an 11-month Therapeutic/Adaptive Riding Education Series that meets once a month, and you can join at any session.

What the Series Covers

Each 1½-hour session combines classroom learning with hands-on time in and around the barn and arena. Over the course of the series, participants learn the essentials of horsemanship, safety, horse handling, adaptive riding, and working with riders with disabilities. Later sessions build toward lesson planning, mock teaching sessions, and instructor candidate presentations.

Who Can Join

The series is designed for aspiring PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors (CTRI®), current and prospective volunteers, and anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of horses and therapeutic riding. No certification plans or previous professional experience are required. Attend the full series or choose the individual sessions that interest you. Each session is $25.

Upcoming Sessions

The series began September 12 with Riding Positions. The remaining 2026 sessions all meet on Saturdays from 3:30 to 5:00 PM:

  • October 17: Teaching Techniques
  • November 7: Saddle and Helmet Fitting and Placement
  • December 5: Additional Tack and Equipment, Mounting and Dismounting

Sessions continue monthly through July 2027. The full schedule and session topics are on the Instructor in Training page.

What to Wear

Most sessions include both indoor instruction and outdoor, hands-on time with the horses, so come dressed for both. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for the barn and arena.
