On-site Activities

On-Site Activities:

  • Art / Crafts
  • Science
  • Sensory
  • Gardening
  • Food prep and/or baking
  • Basic math (additions and subtraction) and money (sorting change, learning coin values, or making change)
  • Visiting the horses and/or participating in Grooming Gang
  • Community park
  • Reading sight words (Levels 1 and 2), reading comprehension for short stories, writing, and typing
  • Life skills / Activity centers (telling time, recycling vs. trash, shape puzzles, patterns, letters, numbers, batteries, tools, etc.)

Our program’s curriculum and activities can include but are not limited to:

  • Socializing: Group activities such as art projects, games/puzzles, gardening, fitness, fundraising, reading/storytelling, music, birthday/holiday celebrations, and dancing.
  • Independent Living Skills:
  • Laundry – including washing machine and dryer use, folding clothes, and putting away laundry
  • Dishes – including rinsing dishes, loading and unloading the dishwasher, and putting dishes away
  • Cooking/Baking – including measuring, mixing, prepping food (i.e., washing fruits and vegetables), and use of small appliances
  • Shopping including managing money, understanding costs, store etiquette, and following a shopping list
  • Access to community resources including generic agencies (colleges, food banks, recreation centers etc.)
  • Self-Care
  • Understanding doctors’ visits to primary care physicians, therapy appointments, dentists, and specialists / Patient understanding

Community Outings

100 % of our participants go on community outings. We do not offer an on-site only portion.

Community outings can be, but are not limited to…

The beach, the pier, grocery store, community parks, San Luis Rey Mission, Dollar Tree, thrift stores, bowling, picnics, farmers market, library, bookstore, museums, and craft store.​

Ivey Ranch Park Association’s Adult Day Program goes on 2-3 community outings per week.

Community outings can include 1-2.5 miles of walking within a day. Participants who are unable to walk that distance without the use of a wheelchair are required to enroll in a non-ambulatory slot.

Participants will interact with IRPA volunteers, staff, and other participants enrolled in other IRPA programs. They will also work with staff on social etiquette and will be provided opportunities to engage with the community on outings.

Touching and engaging with new textures (We have sensory toys and sensory bins. We also make things like slime or cloud dough during science.)

Exciting Life Skills Moments in Ivey’s ADP

General Life Skills:

Create and use a visual grocery list, shop for groceries and program items, food prep 4 days a week, check expiration dates, restock program areas, assist with daily general cleaning, learning to use basic tools, and working on basic office skills (laminating, shredding, printing, copying, etc.)

Equestrian Program Bus Tours:

ADP (all groups) – purchase ingredients

ADP’s yellow, green ,turquoise, and blue groups – help bake the desserts

ADP’s turquoise and blue groups – serve lunch during the tours, and assist with set-up and clean-up of the event area.
